Trampolines – For When You Need A Gym Floor That’s Not So Hard
If you think you're too old for trampolines, think again. This could be the answer to your quest for a safe place to do your exercises, even if you're no longer a kid looking for a place to bounce.
Trampolines became very popular over the past few years and with good reason. Most kids have a natural tendency to bounce and the trampoline is a natural place to work out that excess energy that always seems to be dripping off the youngsters. But older folks may find that the trampoline is a perfect place to do some basic exercises. Take a look at some of the advantages of using your kid's trampoline as a gym.
Have you ever done sit-ups on the floor of your living room? The younger set may face the discomfort of rolling the spine along the hard floor, but older folks need to be especially careful of the spine. Damage occurs more easily as we age and it's possible to cause joints to slip out of place with no more pressure than just the weight of your body against the floor as your spine rolls up and down during sit-ups.
A trampoline provides a cushion that is less likely to damage the backbone. Remember that there's not going to be nearly as much resistance, meaning you may have to work at the exercise routine a little longer to achieve the same effects, but your back will likely thank you.
Sit-ups aren't the only exercise you can perform on a trampoline. Jogging in place will be much easier on your knees when you're doing the exercise on trampolines. You'll probably have to work at this in order to become accustomed to the feel, but being outdoors to do your "jogging" may be much more agreeable than spending the time indoors on your treadmill.
Which brings up another advantage - working out on the trampolines puts you outdoors without requiring that you lie in the grass or put down something to work out on.
Availability and cost are also good reasons to use trampolines as a floor for working out. The cost of a gym may be prohibitive and it may be a real hassle to get to the gym for a daily (or even twice-weekly) workout. Have kids? Put them down for their afternoon naps and take a short workout on the trampoline in your own backyard. Don't have a trampoline? Don't think you have to have children in order to justify the purchase. You'll find trampolines are available at many retail stores at fairly reasonable prices.
